The 12 Rules of Twitter

#FAIL

I’ve found my most popular tweets are my 12 rules of Twitter. I started them as a note to remind myself  how to behave on Twitter.

Here they are, raw and uncensored, for you to print and post as a daily reminder. They are all under 140 characters and I tweet them often, especially rule #12.

Rules are Rules

Twitter Rule #1: Engage in conversation. Do more than listen or tweet content

Twitter Rule #2: Don’t take it personally if you are unfollowed. It’s just business

Twitter Rule #3: Unfollow ppl that are spammers, bots or those that don’t follow rule #1

Twitter Rule #4: Be real, be your self. Tweet what interests you. Subject to rule #3

Twitter Rule #5: If you follow someone new, introduce yourself. See Rule #1

Twitter Rule #6: No feuding, fighting or bullying

Twitter Rule #7: Engagement doesn’t mean creating auto DMs for new followers. See rule #3

Twitter Rule #8: If you see a tweet that you like, retweet it (give the author credit where credit is due)

Twitter Rule #9: Don’t beg for followers. Provide great content & interested ppl will follow you. Spam tweets = unfollow #blockandreportspam

Twitter Rules #10: Tweet great content and it will generate  great conversation. Tweet bad content will get no nowhere

Twitter Rule #11 – be funny, be honest, but most importantly, be yourself

Twitter Rule #12: DM doesn’t stand for Direct Marketing. Use it for private, personal communications AFTER you get to know me.

I’m sure I’ll be adding to this list. Rules change, people change and how we engage changes.
